Foray into Oracle Cloud Certification

 So.. another shot at certifications! 

Yes while attractive as it sounds, path to certifications in addition to knowing subject well, for surely requires focus to hit those milestones. Last couple of months OCI's been the buzzword for one of our customers, well why OCI vs other cloud's is a bigger subject I'll save it for another day, today's blog is about taking a shot at OCI certifications.

After a couple of weeks of watching video's, reading topic of OCI core services attempted the 1Z0-1085-20 - Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Foundations 2020 Associate - English & passed it, its not a big deal as its just the starter certification, please note it is mentioned as not being a pre-requisite to any certification. As has been the feedback it tests the understanding of core OCI services so a good starting point.

Redefining DBA in Cloud transformation

Simply Amazing how cloud transformation is redefining IT services, as enterprises embrace shifting from on-prem to hybrid clouds en route to their ultimate goal of SaaS Model. Couple of years into this transition with my customer is pretty much marking the end of 1st phase of migrating workloads from private data centers to IaaS Models.

For legacy & critical business impacting applications SaaS for various reasons isn't a an easy & straight forward choice. As strategies list out phased approach, some less applications do make an effort to switch to PaaS/SaaS Models & very few are successful to make it, but operations is a different story.

As I continue to experience this transition by evolving from being a core DBA to a Cloud DBA idea is to share cloud nomenclature, tidbits, cloud feature comparison to help few who tread same path.. so buckle up & cloud we go!!!
